As an affiliate, you do not have any control over when a product or program you are promoting will be discontinued.
I am not sure about you, but one of the most successful ways I promote affiliate products is by creating content and posting on Web 2.0 sites, such as: article directories, Squidoo Lenses, Hub Pages, etc.
This requires a lot of time and effort. In order to dominate a competitive market, I place a LOT of content in a LOT of places. Do you do the same?
What happens if the product is discontinued? All of that effort literally stops producing income, unless I go to each article, Squidoo Lens, etc., and modify those links.
Unfortunately this is very, very time consuming.
Never use direct affiliate links anywhere!
Instead, create URLs on a domain you own. Then redirect them to your affiliate link. This is sometimes referred to as "link cloaking."
By "cloaking" your affiliate link, you will prevent link hijacking and get commissions for every sale you worked hard to refer!
Also, if a product you promote is discontinued, you can easily find a replacement product and change your redirect URL to point to the new product.
There is no need to go to lots of sites and modify links. No affiliate marketing effort will ever be wasted again because of discontinued products!!

I've tried all kinds of things -- write a php-refresh and upload the page, OR little build-a-page utilities and then upload the page, OR re-writing the ".htaccess" file, etc., and every darn one of them is a pain in the kaboodle. One typo, and- Start over again! I say phooey.

Perfect for Non-Techies!
I am a non-tech IM newbie.
